FMM Policies
LESSONS MISSED
FORFEITED & MAKE UP LESSONS:
Parents are ultimately responsible for ensuring that their child is reporting to his/her lesson prepared. Students should arrive on time for their lessons. If a student is late, the teacher will give a lesson in the time remaining.
If at all possible, lessons will be made up if they are missed due to student illness, teacher absence, or official changes in the daily school calendar (i.e. field trips, snow days). Make up lessons will be arranged by contacting your individual teacher.
Lessons missed for personal reasons (i.e. dental, optometrist, doctor appointments, family outings or vacations) will be forfeited.
As an alternative to forfeiting a lesson, parents/students may arrange to swap lesson times with another student with prior approval from the instructor. Please plan accordingly.
If a student forgets his instrument or lesson materials, the student is still responsible for the full payment of the lesson and forfeits the lesson.
Students missing lessons for sickness should notify the teacher in advance of the scheduled lesson time. If the teacher is not notified, the lesson will be forfeited.
Details for lessons missed due to long-term illness/injuries should be worked out with the private instructor.
Lessons may be discontinued for accounts that are not kept current, for excessive absences, or for consistently missing lessons without informing the teacher ahead of time.
PREPAREDNESS & PROGRESS:
Each student is expected to fulfill the practice requirements set by his/her teacher on a weekly basis. At-home practice is essential for the musical growth of every student.
Parents must be committed to making sure their child practices. The single most important factor for student success is parental involvement.
Each student is also expected to complete assignments given in lessons, put forward their best effort toward consistent progress, and behave appropriately in lessons.
Lessons may be discontinued for any student who consistently does not fulfill practice requirements, shows no progress for 4 lessons, or has inappropriate behavior during lessons.
ENSURING SUCCESS:
The student’s desire to learn and parental involvement are paramount.
Students must have access to an instrument of adequate quality. Piano students must have an in-tune acoustic piano or a digital piano at home. If digital, it must have a full-size keyboard, 88 keys, weighted keys, and pedals, with a bench that allows the student to sit at the proper height and distance from the piano.
Provide students with a distraction-free practice environment (noise, siblings, TV, etc).
